Style Spotlight: Emily From @the_ferguson_at_the_birches

Tell us who you are and how you spend your time?
Hi, my name is Emily and I am a primary school teacher and mam to India from the North East of England. I like nothing more than spending my time walking at the coast or relaxing on the sofa with a candle on.
How would you describe your interior style?
My style is minimalist with some cost accessories. I’ve recently been adding more warmth to our home to create a more homely vibe.
How do you incorporate fragrance when you style your space? Do you find that certain scents complement specific spaces or aesthetics?
All of the rooms in our home have either a diffuser or a candle! I love having a different scent in each room! I think having a nice candle or diffuser in the hallway is an inviting feature.
How does fragrance play a role in your personal space? Are there any signature scents that you love to have in your home?
I love a classic vanilla scent as well as a fresh clean citrus smell. During winter I like to have seasonal scents such as gingerbread or winter berries!
What are your go-to fragrance types for creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere?
I tend to include vanilla scents all year round for that cosy inviting scent, but in summer like to have a more fruity/tropical scent to match the light nights!
If you could step inside anyone’s home to experience their signature scent, whose home would it be and why? How do you imagine their space smells?
I love looking at other peoples homes on Instagram. I’ve met so many lovely people via my home Instagram account and they all style their homes so well. Some homes I imagine smell very fresh with floral notes whereas other homes give off a more classic scent with elements of vanilla and oud.
Do you have any projects you’re working on right now that you’re excited about? Where can we find you online?
We’ve recently been working on a playroom for our daughter. This has included some panelling and we’ve painted in a classic dusky pink which is a little out of our comfort zone. We still need to add accessories.
The next project is going to be painting in the kitchen and hallway to add some more warmth to the downstairs.
