A Trend Toward Clean: 2021 and Beyond

Health and safety practices are so commonplace they are becoming—dare we say—the new normal?

Case in point, popular online review site, Yelp, recently announced that reviewers will now be able to easily highlight if they observed safety procedures at a business.

The new update was released in response to the success of an earlier update, which allowed businesses to efficiently communicate their current service offerings along with health and safety practices.

The update paid off for businesses; Yelp reported a 41% increase in consumer interest in businesses that highlighted their safety measures.

The platform’s update allowing customers to comment on the safety practices of the businesses they visit reflects the long-term shift in the public’s perceptions of the importance of cleanliness.

Like it or not, consumer demand for healthy public spaces is here to stay.

Research published in the EY Future Consumer Index shows that consumers are craving normalcy, but their priorities have changed. According to their findings50% of consumers are planning on deep, lasting changes into the future, while 62% say they are more cautious about their physical health.

Their findings also show that these consumer attitudes extend to their shopping habits. 26% of consumers prefer brands and products that they can trust are minimizing unnecessary risk and implementing safety protocols.

Further, insights gathered ahead of 2021 in the Gartner Consumer Behaviors and Attitudes Survey indicate that consumers are still uncomfortable in public spaces and “this realignment of life isn’t going away anytime soon, so brands need to find ways to meet consumers where they are.”

This demand for cleanliness is a good sign. It shows that consumers want to return to brick-and-mortar shopping experiences—a far cry from the pre-Coronavirus doomsday predictions that in-person retail would eventually vanish in the face of eCommerce.

According to recent research by Deloitte Insights, which covered 16,000 participants, more than half of all people desire more “human” experiences. Based on their finding, “virtual experiences have diminishing returns as technology can’t fully compensate for in-person interactions.”

People are placing a high value on in-person experiences. To meet consumer desires without sacrificing safety, Deloitte Insights recommends that organizations should create experiences that make people feel safe without hindering their ability to connect.

To businesses, it may seem that there is no end to the constant wiping and disinfecting in sight. But after a year of study, experts report that health and safety measures should move away from surface disinfecting and shift to improving indoor air quality.

Active air purification systems (like the ScentAir ION Protect line) fight the spread of Coronavirus where the experts say the battle should be fought—in the air!

The purification technology is so powerful, it not only eliminates 99.8% of SARS-COV-2, but it also helps clear the air of some of the most noxious pollutants.

Before the pandemic, thousands of businesses were already using the technology that makes ScentAir ION Protect systems effective. Beyond disinfecting, the technology improves overall air quality. Even major airports were using the patented NPBI technology to remove particles and impurities in the air from smoke and jet fuel.

Ionic air purification systems like ION Protect are better than a safe bet for the future. Not only do they provide the level of clean consumers are looking for right now, but they also pay dividends in the long-term health and wellness of employees.

Research by WESTRA (Workplace Environment Science & Technology Research Assoc) on offices fitted with ionic air purification—like ScentAir ION Protect—showed that improved air quality reduces stress, cuts employee absenteeism, and even reduces employee turnover.

In the study, employees working in an ionic air purified office reported a shocking 57% reduction in environmental stress symptoms. During the same test period, absenteeism went down 35% and turnover went down 30%.

In the same study, researchers tracked employee productivity and found that employees got significantly more done while on the clock. In fact, ionic air purification was linked to an improvement in productivity equivalent to hiring 10.5 additional staff members.

Ionic air purification is an investment for the challenges we face now. But it also is an investment in the long-term well-being of employees.

In an age where Yelp reviewers will publicly assess the health and safety measures in a business, it is a smart short-term investment. But the long-term dividends are paid in lower staffing costs and improved quality of life for employees.

As businesses begin returning to normal capacity, more than 250,000 businesses globally have implemented the patented NPBI technology of ScentAir ION protect.

Preparing to meet safety demands and consumer concerns is a realistic goal. But businesses can do more than meet the minimum expectations. They can bring consumers closer to the experiences they remember, uplift employees with a vibrant workplace—and generate the reputation and revenue they want.
